In such a big and complex fight, there are simple things you can do to help assure that discrimination isn’t written into our country’s lawbooks—or into the hearts of our neighbors.
Speak out. Challenge leaders—elected and unelected—when they dehumanize gay and lesbian people. Need some inspiration? Read stories by those who’ve already confronted this issue.
It's not easy to take a risk. But sometimes we don't have a choice, because the alternative is unbearable. We have to live with the choices we make, as well as those we decide not to make by ignoring them. But even deciding not to decide is a choice. Audre Lorde said "Your silence will not protect you." Change will not happen by ignoring choices.
Positive change will happen when good people decide to do good things with the power they've been given. You are powerful.
